A bit about the brains behind BrainWeek

The Neurological Foundation is a charity that raises money for brain research in New Zealand.

Since it was formed in 1971, it has funded hundreds of projects. Currently it is supporting more than 40 research projects at universities throughout New Zealand – and last year provided $1.6 million for brain research projects and scholarships.

The Foundation also supports the education of neuroscientists and neurologists with scholarships and fellowships to enable them to build their careers and continue research.

To bridge the gap between scientific research and clinical treatments for brain disorders, the Foundation has also established the Chair (professor) of Clinical Neurology at the University of Auckland.

Another important facility the Foundation supports is the Neurological Foundation Human Brain Bank at the University of Auckland. This is a repository of human brain tissue that has been donated for scientific research.

The Foundation receives no government funding and nearly all its support comes from individual New Zealanders passionate about helping end the suffering caused by brain disease.

Without donations, crucial neurological research will come to a stop. So please help the Foundation continue its vital work – and make a donation.
