10.00am – 12.00pm Dr Phil Wood: If it’s good for the heart, it’s good for the brain
Geriatrician Dr Phil Wood has a long-standing interest in degenerative brain diseases in the older person, and has been involved in a range of research projects relating to degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Research has shown that the immune system plays an important role in degenerative diseases of the brain, and that what is good for your heart is good for your brain. In this lecture, Dr Wood will provide words of advice for baby boomers wanting to ensure optimum brain health into old age. He will also cover recent and planned research techniques that are being investigated for both the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. At the end of this lecture, Dr Wood will answer questions on matters relating to cognitive decline in the elderly.
