Hamish Ramsden
Hamish became a tetraplegic in October 1994 after being charged by a cow on his family farm in the Hawkes Bay and sustaining a discolated neck at C5/C6 level. Hamish spent five months in rehabilitation at the Burwood Spinal Unit then returned to the farm, which he sold 18 months later, then went into partnership with his brother setting up a sheep genetics company. This company merged with two other operations and is now the largest, privately owned sheep and cattle genetics company in New Zealand. Hamish is currently busy on various committees including the ISO Technical Committee for Wheelchair Standards, Consumer Leadership Group for the Burwood Academy for Independent Living, the Lincoln University Alumni Association, the Editorial Committee for the New Zealand Spinal Network News Publication and he is an Ambassador for The CatWalk Trust. He is also engaged two days a week as a Remedial Tutor at St Andrews College Prepatory School. Hamish and his partner are also kept busy with four children between them.
