Professor Lianne Woodward
Professor Lianne Woodward is a developmental psychologist and leader of the Canterbury Child Development Research Group at the University of Canterbury. A graduate of the Institute of Psychiatry, University of London, she has 20 years’ research experience with typically developing and high risk children. Areas of specialisation include brain development and injury, children’s mental health, preterm birth, parenting, and the neurological effects of prenatal drug exposure. Her work has been recognized by a number of national awards and prizes, including the 2005 Condliffe Memorial Prize for service to humanity, the 2006 HRC Liley Medal for an outstanding contribution to health and medical sciences, and more recently a 2010 James Cook Fellowship award from the Royal Society of New Zealand. She has two teenage children.
